Overview
Join U.S. and Brazilian government and industry representatives in a two-day workshop to discuss the benefits of adopting globally accepted U.S. nuclear codes and standards as Brazil plans to expand its nuclear program. Workshop sessions will also focus on how Brazilian companies can build using these standards. Following the workshop, there will be a third day dedicated for business-to-business meetings between interested U.S. and Brazilian companies. Technical meetings with the speakers may also be arranged.
It is a pivotal time to hold this workshop given that billion dollar investments are expected in both sectors. In May 2010, Brazil's Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) issued a license for the Angra 3 nuclear plant, clearing the last major requirement to begin the construction. The plant will be Brazil's third nuclear power station and will be built close to the other two in Angra dos Reis. The Brazilian government also expects to license construction for up to 4 nuclear plants in the near future. In the oil and gas sector, Brazil is developing plans to tap into the potentially enormous deepwater pre-salt fields.
The Workshop and business-to-business meetings are being organized under the aegis of the U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Civil Nuclear Trade Initiative.
